A small team of 18 UQAT students

  • For this project I was in the level design team and we worked hard to make a good platforming / collectathon game.

  • My first "true project" i work on the level design and i worked on the level design and worked jointly with other "departments", for example the level artists and the programmers. What trained me on the importance of good communication during production.

  • I saw all the production states of a game, from its ideation to bug testing before its release.

  • This is the game that I can say is the most complete and polished.

  • Already more than 40 000 sells (download).

Intentions

For the sake of time, I choose to only present the design intention of the level 1, because the levels are big and analysing 4 levels and the hub would be too long for a short resume.

So the first level was mostly a big tutorial for the player. The first half of the level needed to be designed with the idea that the player wouldn't have a lot of mobility (the player unlocks the double jump before the ravine.)

So for this reason the first half of the level needed to stay more on the ground (more boots on the ground) and the player doesn't need to make hard and long jumps.

After taking the power up of the level (the double jump) and passing the ravine the player arrive in the suburb, a more open zone. The player have more flexibility with is jumps and can explore more complex area. In this moment the player have all the tolls needed to reach the end of the levels.

Before ending the level, the player needs to climb a destroy/glitch road, but for this section the player need to perform with an additional pressure. They are cannons that shot the player with bullets tracking missiles. So the player has the choice to go destroy the canons, but take more risk to get shot or just run as fast as he can until the end of the level.
