Amongst The Rubbles is a little game I created for a personal project. My work was mainly oriented on the level design in the project.

The assets in the game were not designed by me.

The game is intended to be a simple game (walking simulator) with an emphasis on the atmosphere in a vast environment to explore.

Regarding the level design, I mostly had difficulty finding a way to guide the player on the critical path. Following a lot of thinking I decided to place red road flares to guide the player on the path.

Also, I tried to level the difficulty and make it gradual .

I wanted the player to go through only one path to reach the end, so I decided to create a chokepoint right before the end.

The level objective is not immediately visible from the start, but when the player is in the city center he can easily see the lights of a lighthouse which is the point of interest on the map.

I tried not to fall into the classic map creation problem: the classic 3 lanes to follow, but I resigned myself and I did what I find cliché in map design. Also, when designing the map I wanted there to be 3 unique environment types: the suburb, the city center and the port / beach.
